Lesson 06 · Cross-platform Mobile with React Native
Cross-platform Capstone — Build & Ship a Weather App
The specialization capstone: build a real two-screen weather app on Open-Meteo's keyless API, test the pure parts, polish for dark mode and accessibility, and walk the honest road to the stores with EAS Build.
Prerequisites: Cross-platform: Data, APIs & Native Features
Learning objectives
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
- Assemble a two-screen app - search and results - with React Navigation, where every screen renders its own idle, loading, data, empty and error states honestly
- Talk to a real API without a key: geocode a city name and fetch its current weather from Open-Meteo, routing every request through pure, unit-tested helper functions
- Persist the last city with AsyncStorage so a relaunch opens straight onto its forecast, and style the app dark-mode-aware with useColorScheme
- Pass an accessibility check: every touchable labeled, every touch target at least 44 points, and error colors that keep contrast in both themes
- Ship it: know the three EAS Build profiles, what EAS Submit automates, what the stores require in a listing, and what the developer accounts honestly cost
