Lesson 02 · iOS with Swift & SwiftUI

iOS: Xcode & Your First App

Set up the real iOS toolchain - install Xcode, generate a project from the App template, read every starter file, make your first edit and run it in the simulator - and learn the honest platform rule: iOS development requires a Mac.

Prerequisites: iOS: Swift Fundamentals

Learning objectives
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Install Xcode from the Mac App Store and let its first-launch components finish before building anything
  • Create an iOS project with the App template, SwiftUI interface and Swift language, explaining each template option
  • Explain the role of every starter file: the @main App entry, ContentView.swift, Assets.xcassets and the target's Info-style settings
  • State what the App protocol requires - a body returning a Scene - and what @main and WindowGroup each contribute at launch
  • Run an app three ways - canvas preview, simulator, physical device - and pick the right one for a given task
